Why a Blog?

“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.” – Osho

At this point in my life, this quote from Osho is more relevant than ever. Finding out that you’re going to be a mother is like being a caterpillar and finding out that in a few months, you’ll be a butterfly (and right now I’m definitely feeling the chubby caterpillar vibe). Sure, you’ve existed and lived a lovely life thus far. But not like this. In one moment, you’re suddenly responsible for another person’s survival and ability to thrive. You instantly fall in love with someone you’ve never met before. And you’ll play one of the most important roles in all the world for this little person.

It’s understandably overwhelming, as I’m sure all the women who’ve traveled this journey before me can relate to. It’s also incredibly exciting. As I’ve been feeling all the crazy feelings that come along with a first-time pregnancy, I figured it would be a good time to take on one more thing and start nurturing another “baby,” this blog. I’ve had the itch to blog for a couple years now, but never could think of anything I cared about enough to write about week after week. This little currently-avocado-sized dinosaur baby solved that problem!

I plan to share everything from dressing a growing baby bump to what not to say to a pregnant woman, and everything after Baby Shandler arrives too. But this isn’t meant to be a diary about me and my baby. I hope this will be a resource for pregnant women and women thinking of becoming a mom maybe someday, especially those in Kansas City. And I welcome those who’ve been moms long enough that they might find my thoughts and fears hilarious. Either way, thanks for reading!
